USS Independence

The USS Independence is a Prometheus class starship, 3rd of her class, and Flagship of Gamma Fleet. She was launched from Utopia Planitita Shipyards in 2374. The Independence serves as a testbed for new technologies, including the Emergency Medical Hologram Mark III. The Independence is the first vessel to employ Type III ablative armor generators.

Perhaps the most powerful ship to date, the Prometheus Class starship is Starfleet's answer to the recent demand for sleeker, faster, and more offensive front-line starships. With five already in service, including Prometheus, Freedom, Independence, Drake, and Expedition, the Class is slated to be the foremost vessel dedicated to galaxy exploration. Three ships are being built each year in orbit of Mars at the massive Utopia Yards complex.
